Spring 2013 Fashion Frenzy

POSTED BY Baiyu IN Red Carpet, Style @ September 19, 2012 - 9:48 am

September is a thrilling time of the year for previewing the hottest, most exotic and at times outlandish trends of the coming season. Check out some of Baiyu’s looks as she attends Mercedes-Benz Fashion week in New York City, and get her take on what you should stock up on for your Spring wardrobe.

For my fashion week ensemble this season, I decided to stick to classic silhouettes that are either paired with accessories that are statement pieces, or are statement pieces in and of themselves. When it comes to rocking the cocktail dress, it’s so important to have a good clutch. There’s something a bit passé about a girl who looks like she has everything together, except is trying her best to hang on to her cell phone, credit card and keys without something to hold it all together. An eye-catching clutch with a pop of color can actually add to an outfit if done correctly, and will also be your best friend. Even if it doesn’t ooze with color, sometimes it’s the details that make it stand out, like the gold branch clasp on the Diane von Furstenberg I donned at the Suzanne Rae show.

I also decided to stick to dresses or skirt separates as well for this round of appearances only because in the past, some of my fashion choices have caught people’s attention, but not necessarily for the right reasons or for the reasons I would like. Always be yourself and dress for your personality! I truly believe that’s the key. Check out a few pics below, and I’ll be sure to add to this collection once all my pictures roll in:

After previewing a good number of shows to get their take on what’s hot for Spring 2013, I got a pretty solid feel for some of my favorite trends of the upcoming season. Obviously keep in mind that runway styles don’t always translate directly to real life, but there’s also usually a way to incorporate a runway look into your wardrobe without doing it verbatim.  Obviously things are shorter and lighter in the Spring, but I was somewhat surprised to see the ultra sheer fabrics that we saw this Spring reinterpreted into 2013.  The answer to making this trend feasible for the everyday girl or woman is to number 1 wear appropriate undergarments, and number 2 layer layer layer. You don’t lose the sass when you add to the original piece; in fact, you make it unique to your personality!

Another trend that I saw was something that I noticed more for Fall of this year as well, which once again manifested itself in a different way for next spring – pattern on pattern, and sometimes on more pattern. There’s no shame in mixing say a paisley print shirt with a floral pant and adding on a colorful patterned belt to top off the look. The thing to do here is to make sure that the patterns and colors you choose complement each other, instead of being too clash-y. When in doubt, take a picture of yourself in a full body mirror and then look back on it tomorrow to see if you still think it’s a good idea.

I also loved some of the makeup and hair styles I saw this season. Some of my favorites were the creative ways that designers played with braids (y’all know how much I love braids) either using them as bangs, or almost like headbands. The possibilities are plentiful there. I also really like the variations I saw on the classic cat eye that went from mod, to vixen and sometimes even boho with a splash of color. Try it out yourself! In fact, try all these ideas out yourself and let me know what you come up with :)
